"I'm going to Germany and I'm going to miss Nama and I'm going to cry!"

Well ...

Just under 24 hours until we board our flight to Philadelphia! The good news? The house is clean and our bags are packed. The bad news? I'm sick. It's just a head cold, and I am sure that it'll pass in the next day or two, but in the meantime I am completely and totally miserable. This is probably TMI but tonight, as I was swiffering the floors, snot literally ran down my nose and landed splat on the floor before I even had a chance to grab a tissue. I'm pretty disgusting, I'll admit it. ... So traveling for 48 hours should be fun.

We ended up with four hockey bags, each at 49 pounds: one for hockey equipment, one for my husband's clothes, one for Linden's clothes, one for my clothes, and one suitcase. Believe it or not, we're traveling light this season. And it feels really good!

Our last night at home is always bittersweet ... for me. By the end of the summer, my husband is usually itching to leave. I, on the other hand, will be dragging my heels tomorrow night as he drags me to the ticket counter.

It's hard to leave the comforts of home, no matter how excited I am to be outside my comfort zone again. It's hard to leave family and friends behind, knowing that you're going to miss birthdays, weddings, holidays, etc. And it's hard to take Linden away from his family, my mother especially.

When he woke up this morning, the first thing he said was, "I'm going to Germany and I'm going to miss Nama and I'm going to cry" as he started to cry huge, crocodile tears. Break. My. Heart. And hers!

But this is what we asked for, this is what we want. So off we go, on a new adventure, that we hope has a happier ending than last year's adventure.

I'm off to savor my last supper at home (Taco Bell, of course), enjoy some good old American reality tv, take some Theraflu, and pass the ... out.

  1. Sounds like you are ready! I wish you safe travels tomorrow and I hope all goes smoothly...transport etc on the way to your new home. Can't wait for you to get settled in so you can tell us tales of Deutschland! May you feel better, Lidnen be a good travel boy and HP...well I hope he is a good travel boy too!

Seriously will be thinking good thoughts until you are on terra firma. Will be anxious to hear when you have safely landed.

    Safe travels Hockey Family!

  2. Besides the pesky cold u have.. (how'd you get one in the summer silly?) I see u are semi ready to go conquer Germany. At least you're packed and packed lightly ;) looking forward to hear how things go for you all! Have a safe trip! I'll be thinking about u! Xo

  3. Wish I could come with. Take me home... wish you a safe journey, incredibly boring one, uneventful so to speak!

    xx Emily @

  5. i envy you for going to German. It;s an amazing country, with a lot to see and live. A great adventure. i wish you a nice trip and a great beginning.

  6. Taco Bell, excellent choice. Safe travels, goodbyes are so hard!

  7. Here's my Flying with Sinusitis treatment regimen, which works well for my patients. Disclaimer: do not take if you have high blood pressure, pregnant, or allergic to any of the medications.
At least 1-2 hours before takeoff: drink plenty of water, take over the counter (OTC) Mucinex D as directed. I recommend the 60 mg dose of pseudophedrine (120 mg tends to make people jittery). This will unclog stuffiness and guaifenisin to thin mucus. Then, a dose of OTC Ibuprofen for sinus pain, even if you don't have it...yet.
15-30 minutes before takeoff: (if you don't mind nasal sprays). Take one dose of the 12 hour Afrin nasal spray. This will immediatley unclog sinuses. Also, have on hand a saline nose spray to keep nasal passages moist during long flight.
I hope this helps!!!! Best of luck with your flight and travel! So excited for you and your family:)
