When my husband told me we were moving to Europe for the 2009 - 2010 hockey season, I nearly lost it. That's no secret, if you've kept up with this blog.
Once I was over the initial shock, I began to scour the internet for anything that might help me figure out what the hell I was doing. What do I need to pack? How should I pack? How do I pack for my infant? And yeah, I was concerned with the availability of Pureology products.
I joined travel forums and I spent countless hours on Google. I couldn't find a thing.
I needed someone to hold my hand and no one was there.
I did the best I could as I packed. I had a few 'shoulda, coulda, woulda' moments but overall, I was really proud of how well I did.
And then it hit me. I should write down everything I learned and put it out there, on the internet, for the next hockey wife who is in my shoes.
So that's what I did. And that's how and why 'A Day in the Life of a Hockey Wife' was created.
Over time, my blog has shifted focus. There is a Travel tab that serves as a one-stop-shop for all things 'moving to Europe'-related … but there are also a lot of personal posts.
We have experienced a lot of things over the past few years and I decided to write them down. There was no motivation behind it, except that I needed an outlet. That's what this is, for me. An outlet.
This blog is very personal and definitely makes me vulnerable. That vulnerability isn't something I can always share with other wives and girlfriends (unfortunately, women aren't always supportive of other women) and when things aren't so great, blabbing about it within the group can sometimes be extremely destructive. So I write about it here. And I choose to share it with the world because I whole heartedly believe that this blog might just find that one person who needs to know they aren't alone in feeling however they feel. Or maybe they just need a few packing tips.
I didn't have a vision for this blog (and even now, I'm not sure there's a vision) but I am proud of what it has become.
Over the past few months I have met some amazing people. I've been introduced to the blogosphere. And I dove head first into networking and advertising.
It's all very exciting but the root of my blog still remains; it's a personal account of my life that I have chosen to share with the world. I don't represent all hockey wives. I'm just me. It is my hope that anyone who reads this blog understands and respects that.
